UTM’s Everett earns
weekly TE honor

Senior Ben Everett was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s tight end of the week by College Football Performance Awards for the week ending this past Saturday.
Everett had two receptions for 70 yards in UT Martin’s 63-0 victory over visiting Union College Thursday night.
Everett caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Derek Carr in the third quarter.
The senior from Loudon has three catches for 91 yards in two games this season. He is averaging 45.5 yards per game.
Everett and the Skyhawks return to action Thursday when they host OVC rival Murray State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Hardy M. Graham Stadium.

sets benefit cookout

The UT Martin chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will host a benefit cookout for Skyhawk fan Lance Young, who is battling cancer.
The benefit cookout is set before the UT Martin football game against Murray State Thursday at Hardy M. Graham Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Boston Butts, pulled barbecue, chips, dessert and a drink will be served. Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. next to the Bob Carroll Football Building.
The cost of the meal is a donation to help (Lance) Young and his family’s ongoing fight against cancer.

hosting tourney

The University of Tennessee at Martin will host a 17-team, two-day softball tournament Friday and Saturday at the Martin Recreation Complex and Bettye Giles Field on campus.
This year’s fall softball classic will honor Lori Pearson, a fellow coach at Jackson State and a former UT Martin player. Pearson lost her battle with cancer last November. Part of the proceeds from this tournament will benefit Pearson’s Never Quit Foundation.
Action gets under way at 4 p.m. on Friday as the host Skyhawks battle Jackson State. UT Martin will play Chattanooga State at 6 p.m. and Freed-Hardeman at 8 p.m. Tournament action gets under way on three other fields at MRC beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
Games continue at 9 a.m. Saturday at both the MRC and Bettye Giles Field on the UT Martin campus. UT Martin will play its first game against Bethel at 9 a.m. at Bettye Giles Field. Teams will play seven-inning games with a 90-minute time limit. Eight-run and 15-run rules will be enforced. The international tiebreaker rule will be used if time permits, but it will be limited to one inning.
The Skyhawk softball team tuned up for this weekend’s tournament with a 5-1 victory over SIU Carbondale and a 2-1 win over John A. Logan Saturday.

for info on Wright

MEMPHIS (AP) — State officials have added reward money to a fund designed to catch the killers of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright.
Wright’s body was found in a field in Memphis in July 2010.
The reward fund for information leading to conviction is now $11,000 with the addition of $5,000 in state funds.
