Completed arrangements are being announced for Carl Rayburn “PT” Tilghman Jr., 62, of Kenton, who died Sept. 16, 2011, at his home.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Leitherland Funeral Home in Kenton, with the Rev. Eddie Mallonee officiating and burial following there in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening.
He was born Feb. 5, 1949, son of Corrine (Morson) Tilghman of Kenton and the late Carl R. Tilghman Sr. He was the widower of Janie Tilghman and was a 1968 graduate of the former Castle Heights Military Academy. He had operated Tilghman Chevrolet in Kenton from 1969-2003 and was an accomplished NHRA racecar driver, setting several national and world records in the 1980s. He was a Baptist.
Survivors also include two sons and his daughter-in-law, Todd Tilghman of the Sidonia community and Carl R. “Skip” and Nan Tilghman of Union City; his stepdaughter, Teresa Barron of Union City; two grandsons, Kip Tilghman and Wes Tilghman, both of Union City; his granddaughter, Heather Barron of Union City; his great-grandson, Aidan Pruitt of Union City; his brother, Ben Tilghman of Kenton; his sister, Missy (Tilghman) Collan of Friendwood, Texas; his niece, Jennifer (Collan) Tappin of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; two nephews, Christopher Collan of Friendwood and B.J. Tilghman of Kenton; and two great-nephews, Dennis Jr. Tappin and Shan Tappin, both of Fort Walton Beach.
