Home school news told Posted: Tuesday, August 30, 2011 4:32 pm The Messenger, August 30, 2011 The Union City School System wishes to remind parents or legal guardians of children residing in the Union City School District who conduct a home school that they must provide notice to the director of schools, Gary L. Houston, before the commencement of each school year of the intent to conduct a home school. Families who have not yet done this should come by the director’s office at 408 South Depot St. to fulfill this requirement and to pick up a copy of the Union City Board of Education Board Policy 6.202, which states the legal requirements to conduct a home school. A “home school” is a school conducted by parent(s) or legal guardians for their own children. Home schools which teach kindergarten through 12th grade where the parents are associated with an organization that conducts church-related schools (as defined by §49-50-801) which are supervised by such organization and which administer standardized achievement tests at the same time tests are given in their regular day schools are exempt from the provisions found in Union City Board of Education Board Policy 6.202 but must follow procedures issued by the Tennessee Department of Education. |
