The Messenger, August 17, 2011 Completed arrangements are being announced for Bettye Hawkins Witt, 75, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Obion County, who died Aug. 15, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Old Republican Cemetery near Union City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon-2 p.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be James Hawkins, Dr. Jimmy Hawkins, Jack Clark, Jeremy Witt, Curtis Witt and Adam Edwards. The family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. She was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Obion County, daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mary Lela (Williams) Hawkins. She married Lonnie Dale Witt April 30, 1955. He survives. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. She is also survived by her son, Jimmy Witt of Peoria; her grandson, Curtis Witt of Peoria; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Hawkins of the Crystal community; and several nieces and nephews.
