Martin’s Carlie Vowell was crowned Miss Teen Earth United States Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Fla., becoming the youngest contestant to win the title. Vowell competed as Miss Teen Earth Tennessee.
More than 60 contestants, ages 14-20, vied for the title in the four-day pageant that consisted of four phases of competition – swimsuit, interview, evening gown and onstage question.
As Miss Teen Earth United States, Vowell, a freshman at Westview High School, will spend the year advocating and educating for the protection and preservation of the environment.
During the year, Vowell also will make special appearances on behalf of several charitable organizations, including Finding Freedom International, Soles-4-Souls, Earth Day Network, Greenpeace, 350.org and Out of the Closet. She will continue to champion her personal platform of pollution and volunteer her time for the betterment of the planet and its inhabitants.
“I am so grateful for this wonderful opportunity,” said Vowell. “I hope to influence many people’s lives throughout my year of service but most importantly I want to give all my glory to God.”
In addition to her sash and crown, the $10,000 prize package Vowell received included a new wardrobe, jewelry, a custom-made gown, appearance trips and more than $2,000 in scholarships. Vowell will have an opportunity to travel all-expenses-paid to the international Miss Teen Worldwide pageant in the summer of 2012 in Trinidad and Tobago. Known as “Beauties for a Cause,” the Miss Earth pageant is one of the three largest international pageants. Vowell is the daughter of Steve and Hollie Holt and Tim Vowell.
