Local guard units set to deploy
Nashville – Two more engineer units of the Tennessee National Guard, totaling almost 350 soldiers, have received mobilization orders and will deploy in approximately two weeks.
They are bound for Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Both are West Tennessee Engineer units.
The 175 soldiers of the 230th Engineer Battalion in Trenton and 165 soldiers of the 913th Engineer Company in Union City are scheduled to deploy in mid-August.
Members of Trenton’s 230th Engineer Battalion are scheduled to depart from their armory in Trenton Aug. 17.
The following day, Aug. 18, members of the 913th Engineer Company of Union City will depart from the John S. Tanner National Guard Armory in Union City.
The Tennesseans will initially travel to Fort Bliss, Texas, for a brief period of specialized training before deploying overseas.
The Guard’s Nashville-based 230th Signal Company, with 150 soldiers, departed by aircraft July 21 from the National Guard Volunteer Training Site in Smyrna.
More than 20,000 men and women of the Tennessee Army and Air Guard have deployed since Sept. 11, 2001.
