King, Turner families to gather for reunion

The King and Turner families will celebrate their 28th family reunion Aug. 12-14.
The family’s roots span more than 150 years in Obion County and include Doris “Big Lucy” Turner, who was a basketball star at the former Miles High School; Burl Turner and Charles Turner, who played for the former Union City Zachariah Giants, the local Negro League baseball team; Mitchell Henry King Sr. and Ethridge King, who served in the military during World War II; and Otis King, who served in the military during the Korean War.
The family will gather that Saturday at the Union City Housing Authority pavilion on Main Street from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The family will meet for lunch Sunday at Sassafraz Restaurant in Union City at 1:30 p.m.
