Carnival coming
to Martin
The Friends of Martin Parks & Recreation are hosting a carnival, provided by Trinity Amusements from June 8-11, at the Martin Recreation Complex. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy exciting rides, games of chance and concessions. Armbands will be available daily for $15.
Specials include: Wednesday —Church night — Bring a church bulletin and get $3 off the armband price; Thursday — Buddy night — Buy one armband for $15 get a second one free; and Saturday — Daytime Matinee — 1-5 p.m., armbands are $10.

Bro. Edwards
to speak
Bro. Noel Edwards will be speaking at New Home Missionary Baptist Church this Sunday and Sunday, June 12 at the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services.
The church is located on the corner of Bell and New Home roads, Martin.
The congregation cordially invites everyone to attend these services.
Greenfield MC
offers meals
Greenfield Methodist Church begins summer food program June 6-July 29 Monday through Friday.
Free meals are served to children ages 18 and under.
Fun activities begin at 11 a.m. and lunch is served from 12-1 p.m.
Clifford plans
to visit libraries
It’s that time of year again when children of all ages visit their local library for an up close and personal visit with a PBS Kids character thanks to WLJT-DT, Channel 11.
This event, facilitated by WLJT’s Sue Lasky, Education and Outreach Director, extends the educational impact of PBS Kids programs, “beyond the screen,” by introducing young fans to their favorite PBS series stars. This year’s special visitor will be Clifford The Big Red Dog, PBS’ biggest dog ever. Clifford likes to discover the world with gusto and loves to share learning experiences with his friends on his show and while visiting a local library. Come visit Clifford at the CE Weldon Public Library, June 6, at 2 p.m.; Weakley Co. Library in Dresden, Wed., June 8 at 2 p.m.; and Sharon Public Library, Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m.
Golf clinic
to be held
Martin Parks & Recreation, in conjunction with Doe Valley Golf Center, will be offering a youth golf clinic for ages 10 to 18 years old. The session will be June 10, 11, 17 and 18. The time will be 10-11:5 a.m.
The sessions will be held at the Doe Valley Golf Center, 9786 Reams Rd, and conducted by PGA Professional, Gary Keating. Keating, formerly of Florida, was named teacher of the year for Southwest Florida.
Fees will be $40 per participant with registration taking place at the Martin Parks & Rec. office on North Lindell thru June 8. Class space is limited, so register today.

‘Couponing’ class set
Dr. Nathan Porter Library will hold a free “Realistic Couponing” Class from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., on June 11.  There will be a drawing for a door prize of a three-ring binder complete with section dividers and pages ready for you to start saving money.
There is a need to pre-register, space is limited.  
Legion holds
work day
The American Legion Post 55 will be holding a work day, Saturday, June 4, 9 a.m. -noon.
Volunteers are needed to help with  yearly maintenance and upkeep.
Annual meeting set
The Freeman Cemetery Association annual meeting will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011, from 10 A. M. to 12 noon in the meeting room of the Weldon Public Library in Martin.
All interested persons are encouraged to attend.  A business meeting will be conducted with breakfast snacks being served.

VBS to be held
at Palmersville
Palmersville Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School, June 5-9, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Family night will be held Thursday evening. Ages are 3 yrs.- thru teens.
