ROO Ride is the chance for biking enthusiasts to enjoy a beautiful, 60-mile ride from Smyrna to Manchester this month. Proceeds benefit local charities and participants have the opportunity to camp near the Bonnaroo festival grounds.
The organized ride, set to begin June 11 at 9:30 a.m., includes two fully-loaded support stations, lunch, dinner, a specially-brewed ROO brew and an optional shower. It concludes at 1.5 acres of beautiful property that is less than a two-mile walk from the festival grounds. Registration begins at 9.
“The combination of great sponsors and enthusiastic riders coming together to promote green efforts throughout the state will make for a fun, sustainable event,” said cofounder Greta Springer. “This ride is a great way to check out the Bonnaroo scene, completely avoid the traffic and do something good for our community.”
Participants can choose to “day trip” and return on that Saturday night or camp overnight and return on that Sunday. Casual bikers may choose to return by shuttle on that Saturday night or that Sunday morning. More dedicated bikers can ride back on that Saturday or that Sunday, with functioning support stations.
“Our hope is next year we can work with Bonnaroo to secure onsite bike parking and support rides from Thursday to Sunday that truly relieve festival traffic,” said cofounder Amy Wolanski. “We envision having routes from Knoxville to ROO, Chattanooga to ROO and from the west side of the state as well. This is just the beginning.”
Ride participation is limited to 150, with camping available to the first 100 registrants. Overnight registration includes transportation of two bags to the campground.
