The University of Tennessee at Martin ACSQ Saxophone Quintet is touring New Zealand through June 7, performing as guest artists at the National Saxophone Quartet Festival, which celebrates the queen’s birthday in June.
The group will also perform at a children’s hospital, an outdoor farmer’s market, a contemporary art gallery, in several rural schools, at a community performing arts center and at the University School of Music. They will perform in Auckland, Coromandel, Mt. Maunganui, Palmerston North and Wellington.
Music performed will include many styles and genres from all over the world, such as jazz, funk, klezmer, tangos and a few American works. Students will be working with New Zealand composer Michael Norris and will study the Maori culture and music.
