NASHVILLE (AP) — The Sumner County School System has replied to a federal lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union over religion.
Lawyers for the schools argue U.S. Supreme Court rulings note church-state interaction is inevitable and some level of involvement between them has always been tolerated.
Attorneys representing the schools state that while Gideons International was allowed to distribute Bibles in schools, the group was not allowed to proselytize. The response denies a claim that a teacher displayed a cross in her classroom, according to The Tennessean (www.tennessean.com).
