The weather turned out great as anglers took to the water to seek top honors at the prestigious national qualifying tournament. Blackley and Vancleave, sponsored by Strike King, took top prize, catching seven fish with a total weight of 12.36 pounds. The winning pair, who said it was their first time on the lake, reported they slow-trolled in 10- to 14-foot waters on flats with their bait right off the bottom. They earned $4,000 for their first-place finish. The event was sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Rhienhardt Toyota and the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau. With their victory, they qualified for the national championship, which will be held Sept. 30-Oct 1 in Millbrook, Ala., on the Alabama River.
