Obion County-Union City Retired Teachers members Alice Fennel, Gloria Howell and Mary Dunavant recently attended the West Tennessee Membership Workshop in Jackson.
Tennessee Retired Teachers Association president Gail Watson called the meeting to order by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. She welcomed the group and then asked Morris Fair, senior president-elect, to give the devotional. He then gave the membership report of the West Tennessee Teachers. Obion County has 248 retired teachers. Other retired people in the retirement system from Obion County plus Obion County teachers is 735. In all of the West Tennessee district, there are 25,105 retired people.
Mike Barker, who serves on the State School Board, reported on the bills in the Tennessee Legislation which affect teachers and retired teachers.
Ron Pendergrass, membership chairman of the TRTA, continued the rules that affected the retired teachers when other teachers did not belong to their local associations. Numbers mean a lot to the people who serve in the House and Senate of the Tennessee government.
Lunch was served buffet-style. All attending paid for their own meal through their association.
After lunch, Ms. Watson made an announcement for TRTA in June. She encouraged all members to attend.
Gloria Howell was asked by Ms. Watson to serve on the TRTA membership committee in Nashville. Ms. Howell is treasurer of the Obion County-Union City Retired Teachers.
