‘Extra’ UTM news bad

COOKEVILLE — For the second straight day, the University of Tennessee at Martin and Tennessee Tech baseball teams stood toe-to-toe through extra innings.
In the series finale on Saturday the Skyhawks were defeated on a walk-off suicide squeeze play in the 11th inning, falling 8-7.
UT Martin (18-31, 9-11 Ohio Valley Conference) forced extra innings with a dramatic ninth inning.
UTM lost 11-5 (Game 1) and 8-7 (the second contest) in twelve innings on Saturday. The Skyhawks’ are at Arkansas today.
The Skyhawks are currently in seventh place in the OVC standings. The top six teams advance to the conference’s postseason tournament.

Just as they did in Game 2 of the series, the Skyhawks received an admirable performance out of the bullpen.
Cody Terry — who became the program’s all-time hits leader over the weekend — and Trey Karlen scored two runs each.
TN Tech 11-8, UTM 5-7
In Game 2, UT Martin lit up the scoreboard early, tallying seven runs in the first four frames.
However, Tennessee Tech got back into the game with a three-run sixth inning.
Tennessee Tech’s Chad Hayes hit a two-out walk-off infield single to close out the doubleheader in the twelfth.
In the opener, the Skyhawks held an early lead until Tennessee Tech scored nine unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings.
