Chargers sill alive in title tilt

Westview junior Sumner Gilliam moves the soccer ball via a header.

The Westview boys’ soccer team will live to play at least two more games.
The Chargers blanked Obion Central 3-0 on Thursday to claim a ticket in both the Region 7A-AA Tournament title game and the upcoming sectional round of the postseason.
The Chargers will host Dyersburg at 6 p.m. tonight. If Westview wins, they’ll host a sectional game on Saturday.
Should the Chargers lose this evening, they are to hit the road on Saturday.
Westview and Dyersburg played to a 2-all tie during their only regular-season meeting.
On Thursday, Adam Reinhard, Abraham Haddad and Ashton Meyer each had one goal for the Chargers.
Cal Bradshaw dished out a pair of assists.
Westview goalie Scout Edwards made three saves as his team was ahead 2-0 at intermission.
“It’s been a goal of ours to play for the regional championship all season,” Charger boys’ soccer coach Dan Scates said. “The key to the game against Obion Central was our players that came off the bench and how they helped to fill some holes we had.”
Westview was without regular Landon Pather, who was out due to sickness.
Scates lauded the efforts of Noah Towe, Miles Gearin and Meyer in making up for their missing teammate.
