GOING FOR A RIDE
Posted: Tuesday, May 17, 2011 6:27 am GOING FOR A RIDE — It was a wild day at Hillcrest Elementary’s Reading Celebration Friday, with students treated to rides on a miniature train, inflatable rides and various games and activities in and around the school. One of the more popular inflatable rides was the slide set up near the back entrance to the school. Third-graders Skyler Jones (left) and Ethan Terry hit the bottom of the slide Friday morning. Magical Mink Jumpers provided the inflatable rides for the event. The Reading Celebration was organized by Hillrest teacher Amanda Haynes who promised students an “absolutely awesome” field day if they achieved specific reading goals during the school year. The reading program was titled “Cougars ‘Paws’ To Read” and not only did students reach their goals they passed them by a signficant margin, according to Ms. Haynes. Hillcrest students read a total of 45,346 books, 2,129 magazine articles, 5,567 newspaper articles and 20,551 poems during the school year.
