Carl (Mooney) Hays, 92, of Ridgely died May 14, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Union City.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, with Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern in charge of arrangements. Glen Burse will officiate and pallbearers will be Alex Hays, Sam Hays, Jackson Hopper, Harold England, George Dial and Monty Mooney. Honorary pallbearers will be Lillie England, Harvey and Doris Henderson, Annie Paschall, Vicki Smith, Frances Schenk, Dr. J.R. Thomas and Dr. Douglas Haynes.
Friends may call 5-8 this evening at Curry Funeral Home’s Ridgely Chapel.
She was a landowner and former partner of Hays & Dial Farms and was a member of Church of Christ. She was a former Miss Ridgely and a former Woman of the Year for the City of Ridgely. She was also the former chairman of the Lake County Cancer Society.
She is survived by two grandsons, Alex Hays and Sam Hays, both of Tiptonville; her brother, Joseph Mooney of Wisconsin; two nieces, LaRue Wright of Union City and Virginia (Mooney) Dial Chappell of Dyersburg; four nephews, Monty Mooney of Union City, Joe Rankin of Dyersburg, Joseph Mabry Mooney of Memphis and David Mooney of Stillwater, Minn.; and her special friend, Martha Hopper, and her son, Jackson Hopper, both of Tiptonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Alexander and Maggie Jane (Mabry) Mooney; her husbands, Sam Hays and Freddie Connell; her son, Carl Mee Hays; four sisters, Eleanor (Mooney) McWhirter, Louise (Mooney) Rankin, Virginia (Mooney) Dial and Winnie (Mooney) Hood; and three brothers, J.P. Mooney, Mabry Mooney and Byron Mooney.
