Twisters to ‘field’ sectional entrants
The Union City track teams need at least three spots saved on the bus for a trip to the Class A-AA West Sectional in Memphis next week.
One more could make the trio a quartet on Thursday when many of the running champions are crowned as DeAndrez Williams has qualified to compete in three sprint finales.
Already in the sectional field is Chase Bowling, who threw last season at the state championship meet.
Bowling advanced to the discus sectional with a second-place finish at the Region 7A-AA meet in Dyersburg on Tuesday.
Additionally, freshman Jackie Hudson will pull double-duty at sectionals after she claimed first in the girls’ discus and shot put.
Daniel Williamson is also on his way to the next round. Williamson ran the two-mile in 11:24 to earn second.
The top four finishers at the regional level advance.
Meanwhile, DeAndrez Williams has three chances for a sectional berth when running action picks back up on Thursday. He finished third in the preliminary round of the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints.
His time in the 100-meter sprint was 11.2, while he ran a 22.9 in the 200 and a 53.36 in the 400.
