A month-long celebration of music, food and arts, Memphis in May wouldn’t be the same without its World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest held Thursday through Saturday. Hundreds of teams compete for more than $100,000 in prizes and supreme bragging rights. Sevierville’s seventh annual Bloomin’ Barbecue & Bluegrass, held May 20-21, is a family-friendly event that brings barbeque-cooking teams from all over the United States to Sevierville to grill up an estimated 2,832 pounds of meat. Teams will compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes and the title of Tennessee State Champion in the Bush’s Best TN State Championship Cook Off. Rounding out the event is toe-tapping bluegrass music, arts and crafts, kids’ games and the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honoring Sevierville’s favorite hometown girl, Dolly Parton. The 13th annual Prichard’s Sweet Lucy Tennessee State Championship BBQ Cook-Off, to be held June 25-26, hosts more than 70 teams competing for cash and prizes during this event.
