Cary Insurance Services, Inc. has added a new member to its family to help continue to serve Martin and the surrounding area. After 15-plus years of service to Ken-Tenn Sports, John Hatler has joined Cary Insurance Services to provide area residents with all their insurance needs.
Although the insurance industry may be new to him, it is not new to the Hatler Family. Registered as one of the “First Families of Weakley County,” John Hatler, a sixth generation Hatler, will pick up where his great uncle, Fred J. Hatler Sr. (Martin HS ’28), left off in retirement. At the urging of his wife Opal (Winstead) Hatler’s (Dresden HS ’21) brother, Fred and Opal returned to Martin in 1953, where he and his brother-in-law, Al Winstead, purchased Nonny Wilson’s Martin insurance business. Hatler-Winstead Insurance Agency was formed where Fred served the Martin area for 22 years. Fred Hatler did so until his retirement in 1975, when he sold his business to a local proprietor.
A graduate of Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Texas, Hatler moved to Martin in 1993. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he was involved in every part of the UTM way of life, honing his people skills. Hatler met and married Jody (Brown) Hatler (WHS ’95 and UTM ’99) in 2000. She is a science teacher at Dresden Middle School, where she has been the DMS “Teacher of the Year,” a cheerleading sponsor and currently heads the Science Club.
The Hatlers are also the parents of two girls, Cara Brooke and Cambry.
Hatler is actively involved in the community, serving on the Martin Fellowship of Christian Athletes board of directors and as a Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church.
He is also an avid supporter of UTM athletics, as well as a two-time recipient of the Greek Advisor of the Year Award for the UT Martin Greek Community. John was also the Director of the Martin Lion’s Club Christmas Tournament from 2004-2008 and is currently serving on the Martin Girls Softball Association Board, coaching his daughter’s T-Ball team, the Martin Pilot Club.
Whether it is for health, life, home, auto or business insurance needs, area residdents may contact Hatler.
He can be reached at Cary Insurance Service Inc., located at 109 Highway 431, or by dialing 731-587-3033, and via e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org.
