G’field, Dresden remain in hunt

Two out of the three Class A softball teams in Weakley County remaining in the postseason hunt after weekend
play.
Both Dresden and Greenfield remained alive over the weekend. The Lady Lions — who are hosting the District 13A Tournament — won in the opening round of said event.
The Lady Lions defeated Bruceton 11-7 in the single-elimination first round of the 13A Tournament.
Meanwhile, Greenfield blanked Bradford 13-0 on Thursday in its postseason opener, but fell 10-0 to Union City on Friday at the District 14A Tournament.
Double-elimination action in the 13A tourney got under way on Monday at Dresden. The Lady Lions battled McKenzie Monday evening in a winner’s bracket semifinal game. The winner of that game advanced to today’s 4 p.m. game.
The loser played the downed team from Monday’s Huntingdon-West Carroll game at 8.
The Lady Yellowjackets did battle with Trenton on Monday in the loser’s bracke at the 14A Tournament. Monday’s game went final after press time.
Finally, Gleason’s season ended on Thursday with a 16-1 defeat at McKenzie in the single-elimination
first-round of the 13A Tournament.
FRIDAY
UC 10, Greenfield 0
The Lady Yellowjackets had just one hit against the host Union City at Graham Park.
Jessica Williams got that hit off Union City’s Sadie Hollis.
Hannah Meade was the losing pitcher.
THURSDAY
Dresden 11, Bruceton 7
Taylor McAlpin drove in a team-best four runs as the Lady Lions advanced to the double-elimination portion of the 13A bracket.
Abigail Lockhart was 2-for-4 with two walks and four runs.
Meanwhile, Jesica Parsley scored twice and drove in one run, while teammates Amy Reddick and Jesse Jones both chased a pair in.
G’field 13, Bradford 0
Danielle Pence was a perfect
3-for-3 for the Lady Yellowjackets against B’ford.
Jessica Williams and Emily Randolph were both 2-for-3.
Meade claimed the mound triumph against the Lady Red Devils.
McKenzie 16, Gleason 1
The Lady Bulldogs’ season
came to an end in Carroll County on Thursday.
Briana Jones scored the lone Gleason run at McKenzie, while Calay Smith drove in said tally. Jacklyn Montgomery also reached via an error.
The contest was the last in a Lady Bulldog softball jersey for seniors Katelyn Collins and Briana Jones.
