Dorothy Beatrice (Lyell) McCorkle, 86, of Union City died May 9, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Union City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. John Polsgrove and Paul Sternisha officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 this evening.
She was born Oct. 30, 1924, in Weakley County, daughter of the late Charlie Watson and Lois Mable (Thurmond) Lyell. She married John David McCorkle March 25, 1978. He died May 28, 2004. She was a retired employee of the former Brown Shoe Co. in Union City, where she worked for 41 years, and was a member of Union City First Christian Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Nell “Tootsie” Leggett of Union City and Brenda Arnold of Champagne, Ill.; three brothers, Merlin Lyell and Marshall Lyell, both of Union City, and Wayne Lyell of Portland; a niece and nephew, whom she raised, Becky Jones and Herman Wisniewski, both of Union City; 17 other nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Montelle Lyell, Dotson Lyell and David Lyell; and her nephew, Dennis Leggett.
