Authorities investigate shooting
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night in rural Weakley County.
Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department responded about 11 p.m. to 2262 Shades Bridge Road in the Greenfield area after receiving a phone call on the crisis hotline from resident Lester Lee Glassburn.
Three deputies responded to the home and Glassburn was subsequently shot, according to TBI public information officer Kristin Helm.
“What led up to the shooting is currently under investigation by the TBI,” Ms. Helm said.
Glassburn was airlifted to Regional Medical Center (the Med) in Memphis, where he was still being treated Monday afternoon.
The TBI did not release the names and employment status of the deputies involved, saying that information should be released by the sheriff’s office. A sheriff’s department investigator referred media inquiries to the TBI.
Ms. Helm said the district attorney’s office and sheriff’s office both requested the TBI work the case. When the investigation is complete, the TBI will turn the case findings over to District Attorney General Tommy Thomas for review.
