The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night in rural Weakley County.
Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department responded about 11 p.m. to a disturbance at 2262 Shades Bridge Road in the Greenfield area, according to Sheriff Mike Wilson.
Three deputies responded to the home and resident Lester Lee Glassburn was subsequently shot, TBI public information officer Kristin Helm said.
Wilson said deputies who responded to the disturbance were confronted by an armed man later identified as Glassburn. He reported Glassburn pointed a weapon at the deputies after being told to drop the weapon and “deputies responded with their weapons.”
Glassburn was airlifted to Regional Medical Center (the Med) in Memphis, where he was still being treated Monday afternoon, according to Ms. Helm.
The names and employment status of the deputies involved were not released by authorities.
Ms. Helm said the district attorney’s office and sheriff’s office both requested the TBI work the case. When the investigation is complete, the TBI will turn the case findings over to District Attorney General Tommy Thomas for review.
