Sylvia C. Cox, 81, of Obion died May 6, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City
Services were set for 3 p.m. today at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion, with the Rev. Mikey Mewborn officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Hopkins, Terry Roden, Jimmy Roden and Darrell Morris.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
She was born April 18, 1930, in Jackson, daughter of the late John Robert and Jessie Elizabeth (Pope) Morris. She had been a seamstress for the former Salant & Salant in Obion and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her son, Jeffrey G. Cox of Collierville; her daughter, Kimberly Zimmerman of North Little Rock, Ark.; her brother, Ray Morris of Franklin; her sister, Virginia Swindle of Nashville; five grandchildren; her half sister, Shirley Casey of Honolulu; and two half brothers, Tommy Morris of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and J.R. Morris of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Damon Morris, Waymon Morris, John L. Morris and Preston Morris; and three sisters, Mojia Hayes, Lucille Robertson and Ruby Ward.
