Shiloh Battlefield to host Civil War event

Shiloh National Military Park will host a Living History Weekend focusing on Civil War Union Infantry on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The scheduled living history programs, presented by the 8th Missouri Infantry, will be conducted in the historic Peach Orchard area of the park, located at tour stop No. 16 on the automobile tour route.
Historically, the 8th Missouri Regiment was part of Lew Wallace’s Third Division of General U.S. Grant’s Army of the Tennessee during the Battle of Shiloh. The 8th Missouri reported 673 soldiers present for duty and would be engaged with Confederate forces on Monday April 7, 1862. The 8th Missouri would see continued action throughout the Civil War including the battles of Corinth, Missionary Ridge, Kenesaw Mountain and Atlanta. They would muster out of service on Aug. 14, 1865.
