A South Fulton driver apparently escaped injury Thursday evening in a crash that injured three other people on the Purchase Parkway in Graves County, Ky.
Michael D. McFarland, 40, of South Fulton was northbound in a 1997 International semi truck on the Julian Carroll Jackson Purchase Parkway as Julia A. Suiter, 58, of Mayfield, Ky., was attempting to ramp onto the parkway from Exit 22 (U.S. Highway 80), according to the Kentucky State Police.
McFarland observed Ms. Suiter entering the flow of traffic at a slow speed in a 1998 Ford Ranger truck and was unable to avoid the collision. His semi truck struck the rear of Ms. Suiter’s vehicle and then jackknifed, causing it to block both northbound lanes of the parkway. The roadway was shut down for about two hours, the KSP reported in a press release.
Ms. Suiter and her two passengers — McCayla Rodgers, 6, and Kelia Rodgers, 8, both of Mayfield — were transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, where they were treated for minor injuries. They were not wearing seat belts, according to the KSP.
No injuries were reported to McFarland, who was wearing a seat belt.
The KSP was assisted at the scene by the Graves County Sheriff’s Department, Mayfield Police Department and Mayfield-Graves County Rescue and Ambulance Service.
