Dr. Rich Helgeson, interim dean of the University of Tennessee at Martin College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has been named dean, effective July 1.
“I am delighted to remove the interim tag from Dr. Helgeson’s title,” said Dr. Jerald Ogg, vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Rich brings a rare blend of professional experience and academic expertise to a very strong college, and I look forward to his continued contributions to the academic affairs leadership team as we prepare for the full implementation of the Complete College Tennessee Act of 2010.”
Helgeson is a registered professional civil engineer in Tennessee and a member of several professional societies. He has an extensive list of presentations and publications both from his professional career as a practicing engineer and as a faculty member, and he has represented Martin at a number of conventions and summits.
“I am honored to have been selected as the next dean of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and I look forward to representing the faculty and staff of the entire college in the years ahead,” Helgeson said. “We have a reputation of excellent programs in our college and I hope to foster a climate that will continue to encourage academic excellence and a student-centered learning experience.”
