Prep tourney time nears; rain wipes slate clean
Tournament time is upon us.
All of the softball and baseball teams in Obion County will begin play later this week in their respective district tournaments.
District 13AA Tournament play begins for Obion Central in both baseball and softball on Thursday.
The Rebels travel to Crockett County that evening for an opening round contest, slated to begin at 6. The second round of the tournament will be split between Dyersburg and Covington on Friday. The Rebels will play at D’burg in either the winner’s or loser’s bracket on Friday.
On Saturday, the 13AA Tournament moves to Union City’s Elam Stadium for the remainder of the event.
Meanwhile, the OC softball team opens its tournament trek on Thursday at Dyersburg — where the entire tournament is to be played — against Crockett County.
Both the Union City and South Fulton baseball teams do battle for the first time this postseason in the District 14A Tournament on Friday.
The Twisters host Humboldt in a first-round contest at 6, while SF goes to Trenton for a game set to begin at 5.
Greenfield is the host of all the 14A baseball action after the opening round.
In 14A softball, Union City — the tournament host — plays the winner of a play-in game on Friday at 7. Greenfield will host said play-in game, although their opponent is yet to be determined as Humboldt and Bradford have yet to sort out who the league’s No. 7 and eighth seeds are.
South Fulton makes its 2011 postseason debut on Saturday at 1 against either Lake County, Trenton, Humboldt or Bradford.
Of course, all the aforementioned scenarios depend upon the weather.
Already, the prep slates for today and Monday have been washed away.
The District 14A-AA Tennis Tournament semifinals have been postponed until Wednesday.
On Monday, Union City’s baseball game against Hickman County was outright canceled as was Obion Central’s home game with Crockett County and South Fulton’s away contest at Community Christian Academy in Paducah.
The county rivalry game between UC and OC set for this evening has also been canceled.
On the softball side Monday, Union City at Lake County fell victim to the high waters as did the Lady Twisters’ contest at Hickman County, while South Fulton’s date at Mayfield also was canceled. The Devilettes’ game today with Dyer County was also taken off the schedule.
Finally, Obion Central’s Monday soccer date at Haywood will be made up on Thursday. Also, today’s soccer match between SF-OC has also been taken off the schedule as has Wednesday’s Red Devil match with McKenzie.
