UT Martin baseball has Sonny outlook

UT Martin baseball coach Bubba Cates announced the signing of infielder Sonny Mastromatteo to a National Letter of Intent.
Mastromatteo, originally from Ortonville, Mich., has played for head coach Wayne Hancock at Cushing for the last two seasons.
Last season for the Penguins, Mastromatteo was a member of the New England Class A championship team at the prep school level in Massachusetts.
Mastromatteo joins early signees Carter Smith (LHP/St. Louis), Taylor “Bug” Cox (LHP/Memphis) and Dalton Potts (LHP/Greenfield) in the 2011 signing class.

UT Martin tennis coach Dennis Taylor returned from the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament last weekend to find a National Letter of Intent on his desk signed by Jessica Silva, a top amateur player out of Culford School in Suffolk, England.
“Jessica will be a strong addition to an already powerful Skyhawk team,” Taylor said. “She is a very aggressive baseline player who is also very talented at the net.”
A Winnipeg native, Silva was a top-20 player in the 16-and-under age group in Canada before moving to Portugal in 2009.

earns OVC honor

UT Martin freshman Amanda Brandenburg has been named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week.
The news was made known early Monday afternoon by officials at the OVC.
Brandenburg pitched a two-hitter and tossed a complete-game shutout against Jacksonville State to help the Skyhawks take the OVC series 2-1 this past weekend.
The freshman also tossed a complete game Friday against Jax State.
She pitched seven innings and gave up three hits and one run as the Skyhawks claimed a 3-1 victory to take the series opener.
Brandenburg picked up her first win of the week when she pitched five innings and picked up an 11-0 victory at Belmont.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Skyhawks.
The victory was also Brandenburg’s first complete-game shutout of the week. She gave up four hits in the victory.
At the plate, Brandenburg hit .500.

McMillan and staff
to instruct camps

Registration is currently under way for three girls’ basketball camps at UT Martin.
Skyhawk head coach Kevin McMillan and his staff will offer a fundamental camp (Grades K-8) on June 28-July 1; an elite camp (Grades 7-12) on June 26-28; and a middle school and high school team camp.
The fundamental camp will be focused on shooting, dribbling, passing and defense.
The elite camp is designed for players who want to take their game to the next level.
In the high school and middle school camp, all games will be played in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center
