Another Easter has come and gone. Many Christians are encouraged and their faith has been strengthened. Sadly, for so many, their yearly experience with the Resurrected Christ and his Bride, the church, is over … at least until Christmas.
But would it surprise you that this was the similar response of the first disciples and apostles? Even after they had seen the resurrected Savior, they still were scratching their heads wondering what to do with the rest of their lives. After Jesus ascended to heaven, for about a week and a half I’m sure they were asking themselves, “Now what?”
It wasn’t that they didn’t believe in the resurrection; they just didn’t know what to do with it! Until … they met the Holy Spirit. Then they knew the answer to “Now what?”
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (vs. 42) Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. (vs. 43) All the believers were together and had everything in common. (vs. 44) They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. (vs. 45) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, (vs. 46) praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (vs. 47).” Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)
If you want to know the answer to “Now what?” just do what they did. They lived like they believed in the resurrected Christ. It wasn’t a once a year occurrence, it was a daily CELEBRATION!
“To believe something and not live it is dishonest.” (Ghandi)
If you really believe in the resurrection, then you know “Now what?” and you’ll live it!
