Rain a bad thing for all prep teams

Rain a bad thing for all prep teams
Rain wasn’t a good thing for the area spring sports teams on Monday.
The entire slate was wiped clean due to wet field/court conditions and afternoon storms.
The forecast to get in today’s contests doesn’t look particularly encouraging either as the storms that caused damage throughout numerous spots in rural West Tennessee overnight dumped even more rain onto area sandlots, soccer fields and tennis courts.
Essentially, every local team is in the same boat — no pun intended as they scramble to find make-up dates for key district match-ups during the final full week of the regular season.
Already this morning, some of the games have been outright canceled or postponed.
Topping that list is the Obion Central baseball team’s home game against Milan. Weather permitting, the Rebels will host the Bulldogs on Thursday.
Also, South Fulton’s home soccer game this afternoon with Westview has been postponed until further notice.
SF’s softball outing with Union City was on hold at press time. The Devilettes’ field was possibly playable if no more rain fell.
However, rain is in the forecast for early this afternoon and through the evening hours.
On Monday, some of the games were put on the backburner with hopes that they could be made up.
Meanwhile, others were just wiped entirely from the slate.
On the baseball diamond, Obion Central’s Monday game at Milan was put on hold along with South Fulton’s date at Halls.
Two of the three games on Monday’s softball slate were straight out canceled as SF did not make the trip to Camden and UC axed its date with McKenzie.
No make-up date for OC’s postponed game with Gibson County has been announced.
Yet, one possibility was revealed. Obion Central has taken its Thursday’s game with South Fulton off the schedule. OC is set to host Westview at 4:30 and play GC at 7 on Thursday.
On the tennis court, both of Monday’s matches (Union City at Crockett County and Dyersburg at Obion Central) were straight out canceled.
Finally, South Fulton’s soccer match with Ripley was put on hold. Red Devil soccer coach Mixon Moore said it could be made up.
However, that possibility gets less likely with each passing day as more matches are expected to be postponed in the coming days due to storms and wet field conditions.
