The New Salem FCE Club met on April 1 at the Ole West Steakhouse in Martin. Our hostess, Aileen Edwards, provided a delicious lunch from the buffet.
Beginning with the thought for the day, “Reading to the mind is what exercise is to the body,” an old Chinese Proverb. President Bettie Higgs welcomed 12 members.
Devotion Leader, Marjorie Simmons, brought Easter devotion on the topic “He Is Risen” and used “because I live you shall live also” from John 14:19b and led in singing “In Your Easter Bonnet.” President Higgs honored our April birthday ladies, Sylvia Simmons and Marjorie Simmons, with a card and everyone singing happy birthday. Then all repeated the club creed.
Following the reading of the minutes, Secretary Ruby Rogers called the roll to which each one gave an author or a book title she had enjoyed recently. April is National Library Month and we had brought books to give to the Sharon Library, a total of 21 and a donation of $50 to the library. Sylvia Simmons gave the treasurer’s report.Other business included the County Council on April 14. New Salem was responsible for the devotion, music and door prize. Our reports are to be sent to Maurine Hickman by May 1. Books for newborns to be taken to the hospital in May and celebrate the day of the Family is in May. Also remember we will collect for the Cancer fund in May.
Agent Beverly Shelby thanked everyone for the parts played in having a great achievement program and luncheon on March 15. She also brought our program titled “Who’s Afraid Of the Big Bad “Redbugs?” She made us aware that bedbugs are not just a thing of the past and taught us how to identify them and if found how to prevent them.
