Recent ads that have been popping up on billboards throughout America read like this, “I am ethical and moral without religion.” Another one says, “I don’t need God to be happy.”
The fact of the matter is those statements are true, no doubt. You can be a good person, live a good moral life. You can be a very ethical person with good character without religion. And of course, depending upon what you define happiness as, you can be a happy person without religion. No one will dispute that.
I, in fact, lived by that creed to the best of my ability through my young adult life. Anyone can live by that creed and be happy until life happens and suddenly there is a void of real answers. I found myself at 32 years of age, struggling with the meaning of life, living by humanistic values, with my 6 year old daughter in the hospital, delirious with fever, with no answers for days. I suddenly realized that in that moment of time, cheap clichés and shallow humanistic ideology did not serve me well. Deep inside my sub-conscience, I knew there was something I was missing. That led me on a journey in search of the answer, and I found that answer … not in religion, but in a personal experience with Jesus Christ.
Now some 20 years later, I have found my self, ethical and moral and happy … with God … and with answers!
