UTM settles for second

The UT Martin tennis team finished the season just a match triumph short of the NCAA Tournament.
The Skyhawk tennis team fell 4-0 to Jacksonville State in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament finale on Sunday in Paducah.
On Saturday, UT Martin defeated Morehead State 4-2 to claim its spot in the league title match.
The Skyhawks end their season with a 12-9 record.
Johanie Van Zyl and Greenfield product Katie McCall won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, but the Skyhawks could not come away with the doubles point. In singles play, UT Martin produced first-set victories at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6, but the Gamecocks won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 2.
The Skyhawk tennis team battled through chilly wind conditions and severe wind gusts to emerge with a 4-2 victory against Morehead State in the OVC Tournament semifinals.
UTM earned the doubles point. At No. 3, Van Zyl and Katie McCall won 8-6, while Jodie Tiley and Anna Marie Herbold pulled out a close 9-7 victory at No. 1.
Herbold won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 to open up singles play, and Anna Winkelmann picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2.
Tiley capped off the victory with a come-from-behind 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 1.
