Carol Coley McDonald assumed the position of assistant agriculture commissioner for policy and legislation last month.
The announcement was made by Tennessee Department of Agriculture Commissioner Julius Johnson.
“Carol has an intimate knowledge of agriculture and rural issues, which will serve the state well as we work to support Governor (Bill) Haslam’s priorities on rural economic development,” said Johnson.
As assistant commissioner, she serves as the department’s principal liaison to the Tennessee General Assembly and will direct policy and program development in areas ranging from food safety, pesticides and consumer protection to forestry and agricultural development.
Ms. McDonald was an Extension agent in Smith County.
