The Ice House in Mayfield, Ky., is currently hosting an exhibit of more than 40 quilts made by the Piecemakers, a quilting club with members from Graves County.
The show is on display until April 30 and has something for everyone, including award-winning quilts, traditional patterns, original designs, miniatures and wearables.
The quilters participating in the show are Roxanne Ferguson, Frances Higgins, Judy Hobbs, Lindsay Luciano, Fran McEachern, Kelley Newell, Marlene Newell, Morgan Newell, Lou Ann Philpot, Carol Rae, Marilyn Riley and Javada Smith.
Many of the quilts are the Piecemakers’ original designs. There will also be rescued quilts and some “first quilts” by young quilters.
Besides traditional hand piecing and hand quilting, additional techniques include organza overlay, bead embellishment, thread painting, hand dying, fabric weaving, thread play, paint stick shading, three-dimensional fabric folding, shading with inks, dyes and pencils, felted wool appliqué and yarn couching.
The Ice House will host a special quilt week April 25-30. The gallery will have extended hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, during this week to accommodate demonstrations and a bazaar offering fabrics, quilting magazines and patterns, handmade items and a bake sale. On April 25 and 26, the Piecemakers will host relaxed demonstrations where visitors to the gallery can watch and ask questions.
