| The Union City boys’ tennis team ran the table on Thursday. The Twister boys won every match by at least five games en route to a 7-0 shutout of Crockett County. In the girls’ match between the two schools, UC also won, but by a closer 5-2 count. Meanwhile, the Obion Central girls fell to Greenfield — a Class A-AA State Tournament entrant last season — 6-1 on Thursday. The Twister and Central tennis teams do battle on Monday afternoon. In the Union City boys’ triumph, top seed Julio Fuentes bested William Northerner 8-3, while No. 2 seed Jacob Triplett won by a like margin over Lucas Bushart. Third-seeded Twister Russ Smith bested Ryan Harber 8-2. Union City four seed Alex Pegram routed Zach Cole 8-1. Twister No. 5 seed Alex O’Neill won via forfeit as the Cavaliers had just four boys. In doubles’ action, Triplett and Smith dominated Harber and Bushart by an 8-1 margin for the Twisters (5-0 on the season). Likewise, Fuentes and O’Neill owned Northerner and Cole in an 8-3 victory. On the girls’ side, Union City’s Anna Moore, Tara Elam and Gracie Frankum all claimed 8-1 victories over their respective opposition of Elizabeth Moore, Jennifer Bushart and Madison Churchwell. Lady Twister No. 4 seed Jenna Miller fell 8-3 against Tara Dillon, while Lady Cavalier Rachel Wear beat Blair Beachum 8-4. In girls’ doubles play, Moore and Elam quadrupled Katelyn Edwards and Moore 8-2, while Miller and Beachum lost (8-6) to Bushart and Churchwell. As a result of the triumph, the Union City girls are now 4-3 on the campaign. For Obion Central’s part on Thursday, Kacee Warren was the lone victor against the highly-regarded Lady Yellowjackets. Warren edged Kendal Cook 9-8 (7-3 in the tiebreaker). Other action had No. 4 Lady Rebel Shelly Pate downed 8-3 by Kaylee Kesterson, while five seed Taylor Moore lost to Greenfield’s Callie Croom 8-2. At the top of the depth chart, Obion Central’s No. 1 seed Lindsay Castellaw and second seed Marissa Howard fell, respectively, to G’field’s Emily Allen and Taylor Hatcher by a like final of 8-2. Doubles play had Allen and Kesterson 8-0 victors over Castellaw and Howard. Hatcher and Cook bested Warren and Pate 8-1. | | | |
