Completed arrangements are being announced for John Richard Dick Jr., 63, of Union City, who died 1:20 a.m. April 13, 2011, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Ponticello will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Saturday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope, American Diabetes Association, Disabled Veterans National Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born Nov. 4, 1947, in Ridgely, son of the late Gloria (Griffin) and John Richard Dick Sr. He retired from Kohler Industries in Union City after 30 years of service and was co-owner of J.R’s Auto Sales in Union City. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union City, he was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans, the American Legion and Vietnam Helicopter Crew and had served in the U.S. Army from November 1964 until March 24, 1969. He completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, the first with the engineering company and the second as a gunner on a helicopter.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl (Elks) Dick, whom he married June 14, 1969; his son, John R. Dick III of Union City; his daughter, Karen Anne Dick of Memphis; his brother and sister-in-law, William G. and Shirla Dick of Conroe, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Woodruff.
