The Ohio Valley Conference took notice of the way the UT Martin men’s basketball team conducted itself.
On Friday, the league announced that UTM is the recipient of the 2010-11 Team Sportsmanship Award for the sport.
With the win for the Skyhawk men, UT Martin sweeps the Team Sportsmanship Awards for basketball.
Last week, the UTM women were honored with a similar award.
The 2010-11 school year marks the sixth year the team sportsmanship honors have been awarded.
This marks the first award for the Skyhawk men’s basketball program.
UT Martin found its groove late in the season, winning seven of its last 13 games to make the OVC Tournament field, where it topped No. 5 seed Tennessee State in the first round.
“We take sportsmanship very seriously and we believe the game should be played the right way,” UT Martin head coach Jason James said. “This year, we had a good group of seniors who led by example.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the way our players handled themselves this year – this is a special award to cap off our season.”
James recently finished his second year as UTM’s head coach.
