The Messenger has learned of the death of Earl Gerald Sublett, 81, of Corpus Christi, Texas, a former resident of the Rives area, who died March 8, 2011, in Corpus Christi.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio March 17.
He was born Dec. 11, 1929, in the Pleasant Hill community near Rives, son of the late Stella Florence (Keel) and Edward Clifton Sublett Sr. He attended the former Rives and Woodland Mills schools and graduated from the former Rives High School in 1948.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in October 1951. He served tours of duty in Germany, Greece and Turkey and three tours of Japan and retired as a master sergeant with 27 years of honorable service to his country.
He is survived by two daughters and his son-in-law, Deborah Sublett of Tylertown, Miss., and Wendy and Russell Bego of Corpus Christie; two granddaughters, Randal Bego and Reagan Bego, both of Corpus Christie; his grandson, Ross Bego of Corpus Christie; two sisters, Nell Garrett of Union City and Helen Scott of Birmingham; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, David Sublett of McKenzie, Harry and Jane Sublett and Wanda Sublett, all of Union City, and Pauline Sublett of Rives; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Sublett, Vetta Garrigan and Louise Reeder; and three brothers, Carl Sublett, Edward Clifton Sublett Jr. and Kenneth Sublett.
