Raymond “Junebug” Gardner Jr., 82, of Dresden, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at his residence.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Church in Dresden with Rev. Wilma Pearson officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Dresden with Bowlin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Daryl Gardner, Jordan Gardner, Chris Gardner, Darray Sowell, Dexter Sowell and Kendrick Edwards served as pallbearers.
Gardner was born March 26, 1929 in Dresden, son of the late Raymond Sr. and Ida Russell Boyd Gardner. He was the widower of Ruby Lou Armstrong Gardner. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Stock Preparation at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and a member of St. James Church.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Kenny Edwards of Martin, Andrea and Wallace Sowell of Dresden, Diedre and James Hamilton of Paris; one foster daughter, Pia West of Madisonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Russell “Rusty” and Marchell Gardner of Martin; two brothers, William Russell Gardner and James Thomas Gardner, both of Lansing, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Eugene Gardner.
