FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have ordered evacuations for several homes near a five-square-mile wildfire in northern Colorado, but say they’re hopeful the winds will keep dying down and the humidity keep rising.
High winds Tuesday night prompted fire managers to order evacuations of 21 homes on the south end of the fire west of Fort Collins and several more on the north said. The evacuations will stay in place overnight as a precaution.
The fire has already burned about 15 homes. It started Friday in rugged hills and exploded Saturday night when high winds spread it quickly. More than 300 homes were temporarily evacuated.
Snow and cold Sunday helped calm the blaze, which is 15 percent contained.
A small fire near Durango in southwest Colorado is threatening structures, but no buildings have burned.
