Completed arrangements are being announced for Ruth (Craig) Grooms, 92, of Fulton. She died 2:14 a.m. April 4, 2011, at Haws Memorial Rehab and Nursing Facility in Fulton, where she had been making her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with Cecil May III officiating. Burial will follow there in Greenlea Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Parkway Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1642, Fulton, KY 42041; Kosair Children’s Hospital, 231 East Chestnut St., Louisville, KY 40202; or New Pathways for Children, P.O. Box 10, Melber, KY 42069.
She was born June 19, 1918, in Benton County, Ky., daughter of the late Wiley Black and Ida Ethel (Marshall) Craig. She was the widow of J.L. “Bill” Grooms and was a homemaker. She had also been manager of the former Montgomery Ward stores in Fulton and Union City and had been an Avon and Stanley Home Products representative. She was a member of Parkway Church of Christ and had served the church as secretary. She had attended Draughon’s Business College and had lived in the area most of her life.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patsy and Bob Craven and Tammy Curtis, all of Fulton, and Pam and Richard Jackson of Pilot Oak, Ky.; her son and daughter-in-law, Lowell and Barbara Grooms of South Fulton; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Billy Grooms; her daughter, Ginger Gwen Grooms; two sons-in-law, Scott Curtis and Garry Moore; six brothers; six sisters; and her great-grandson, Caleb Turner.
