Milton Waldrop Dowdy, 88, of Martin, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Obion County Nursing Home, Union City.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Stanley’s Cemetery, Union City. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. tonight.
Rob McKnight, Danny Powers, Jon Pritchett, Randy Runion, David Hauhe and John Mark Walker will serve as pallbearers.
Dowdy was born Dec. 26, 1922 in Rienzie, Miss., son of the late Roscoe and Estelle Box Dowdy. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a farmer and member of Martin First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Cothron Dowdy of Martin; one son, Waldrop Dowdy of Union City; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Linda Jackson Dowdy of Martin; one sister, Clara Lippard of Brookhaven, Miss.; three grandchildren, Allison and Chad Plunk, Dwayne and Dishell Dowdy, Erik and Leigh Dowdy; and six great-grandchildren, Walker Plunk, Cothron Plunk, Hensleigh Dowdy, Ardri Clara Dowdy, Bracen Dowdy and Brentley Gene Dowdy.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Roger Dowdy.
