An Arkansas truck driver was allegedly robbed at knifepoint early today outside a Union City motel.
The incident occurred about 1:40 a.m. today on the parking lot behind Country Hearth Inn on West Reelfoot Avenue, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Carol Lynn Cress of Monticello, Ark., told police he had parked his company truck on the parking lot behind the motel about 1:30 a.m. and walked to the motel to check in. Upon returning to his truck about 10 minutes later, he said he opened the driver’s side door to grab his bag when a Hispanic man placed a knife against his upper chest and throat area and demanded his money.
Cress reported he handed the man $1,000 cash from a money bag inside the truck. Once he gave the money to the robber, Cress allegedly was struck in the left side of the face with what he thought to be a fist. Two Hispanic men reportedly then ran between the trailers toward the nearby Express Shop convenience store.
According to the report, the Hispanic man who assaulted Cress appeared to have been wearing a white shirt. The other man, who allegedly acted as a lookout, could not be seen clearly.
Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to contact Union City police at 885-1515 or Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers are guaranteed anonymity and tips may be worth rewards up to $1,000.
