Milton Waldrop Dowdy, 88, of Martin died March 30, 2011, at Obion County Nursing Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with the Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley’s Chapel Cemetery near Union City.
Pallbearers will be Rob McKnight, Danny Powers, Jon Pritchett, Randy Runion, David Hauhe and John Mark Walker.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening.
He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Rienzie, Miss., son of the late Roscoe and Estelle (Box) Dowdy. He was married to the former Hazel Cothron, who survives, and was a farmer and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was a member of Martin First United Methodist Church.
Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, Waldrop and Tammy Dowdy of Union City; his daughter-in-law, Linda (Jackson) Dowdy of Martin; his sister, Clara Lippard of Brookhaven, Miss.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Allison and Chad Plunk, Dwayne and Dishell Dowdy and Erik and Leigh Dowdy; and six great-grandchildren, Walker Plunk, Cothron Plunk, Hensleigh Dowdy, Ardri Clara Dowdy, Bracen Dowdy and Brentley Gene Dowdy.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Roger Dowdy.
