Westview blanks GC
on local soccer turf
Westview blanked Gibson County 8-0 in prep soccer on Thursday evening.
Charger Adam Rein-hard filled up the net with five goals.
Additionally, Abraham Haddad, Cal Bradshaw and Sumner Gilliam each kicked in one score.
Bradshaw also was credited with three assists, while Haddad had two dishes.
Also, Landon Prather and Ashton Meyer each had one goal.
“I thought our guys attacked the goal aggressively,” W’view boys’ skipper Dan Scates said. “We had eight goals and seven assists.
“That shows we were moving the ball well.”
The Pioneers had just two shots on goal.
Westview’s Scout Edwards and Chase Thweatt each had one save.
The Chargers (3-1) return to action on April 5 at Lexington.
to hold ‘Fan Fest’
The Jackson Generals will hold their first-ever fan fest on April 12 at 5 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
It will prelude the Generals’ home opener against the Jacksonville Suns on April 13.
Fans will get to meet the 2011 Jackson Generals, watch batting practice, take photos, get autographs on the field and more.
A bouncie house will be available for youngsters along with other activities.
The Generals’ team store will also be open to debut the squad’s 2011 line of merchandise to the masses.
Entertainment will be provided by Memphis Jones and door prizes will be given throughout the night.
The Jackson Generals are the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and a member of the Southern League.
The 2011 season opens April 7 at the Mississippi Braves.

UTM equestrian team
falls in season finale
The UT Martin equestrian team wrapped up its regular season with an 11-8 setback at New Mexico State University Saturday.
The Skyhawks battled to a 5-5 tie in Hunter Seat.
Brittany Kasprack won the MVP in equitation over fences and led the Skyhawks to a 4-1 victory over New Mexico State.
Kara Bergenty, Katie Miranda and Caroline Cramer also won their points for UT Martin.
New Mexico State won the equitation on the flat 4-1.
Katherine Gay was the lone Skyhawk to win a point during the defeat in that event.
In the Western discipline, UT Martin won the reining 3-1, but lost the horsemanship 5-0.
Stephanie Sanders won the MVP in reining, while Carly Lamb, Michelle Chullock and Hannah Derks won their points.
Dresden man Elliott
aces hole at PHGC
Ricky Elliott of Dresden recorded a hole-ine-one on Sunday at Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon.
Elliott’s ace came on the 138-yard, 13th hole.
His club of choice was a 7-iron.
Witnesses to the shot were Eddie Trevathan and Ricky Carter.
