Though each team had just six hits, the Union City baseball squad was ahead where it mattered on Monday at Humboldt.
The Twisters bested their District 14A foe 9-6 in one of the few prep games played on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
Union City’s Drake Parker, Caleb Long and Clay Treece each went 2-for-4.
Long scored two runs as did Matthew Keathley, while Parker chased in a pair.
Winning pitcher Kevin Freeman went 51⁄3 innings, striking out three.
Parker came on in relief and got the save.
He struck out three in his 12⁄3 frames of mound work.
The Twisters (7-3) play in the Huntingdon Diamond Classic Thur-sday through Saturday.
Trenton soccer rains
on Jr. Twister parade
The Union City Middle School co-ed soccer team braved the elements on Tuesday afternoon.
With rain pelting the War Memorial Stadium turf at numerous junctures in the contest, the Twisters fell 3-1 to Trenton.
Malik Stockdale booted the lone UC goal.
Twister goalie Will Thralls made 10 stops.
The contest was played quickly with the threat of thunderstorms in the area as only about two minutes were reserved for halftime, according to head coach Rob Nettles.
The Union City soccer team (2-2) hosts Dyersburg on Thursday.
That game is set to begin at 5:30 at War Memorial Stadium.

for UT Martin rodeo
Advance tickets for the 43rd annual UT Martin rodeo are on sale now through April 10.
The UT Martin rodeo is set for April 14-16 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex on campus.
Locally, tickets may be purchased at Union City’s Wood Communications Wireless Source and Fulton’s Verizon Wireless Store.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults ($8 in advance) and $7 for children ($6 in advance).
Children ages 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
Student tickets are $7 ($6 in advance) with an ID.
Weekend passes are available — in advance only — for $18 for all three performances of the UTM rodeo.

UTM tennis match
postponed ‘til Thurs.
The women’s tennis match scheduled between UT Martin and Murray State originally set to be played at Skyhawk Varsity Courts Tuesday was moved to 2 p.m. Thursday.
There was a steady rain that began falling Tuesday mid-afternoon, while Thursday’s weather projection calls for highs in the upper 50s and a 30 percent chance of rain.
UT Martin (7-7) is currently the hottest team in the Ohio Valley Conference, winning three straight league matches to stay undefeated in conference play.
Murray State will enter the match with a 5-10 record and 1-1 OVC slate.
