The Bethel University Department of English is pleased to announce a reading by acclaimed poet Bill Brown on Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 131 of the Dickey Fine Arts Building on the school’s McKenzie campus. Brown, a Bethel alumnus, is the author of many collections of poems, most recently The News Inside (Iris Press, 2010). Retired in 2003 after 20 years of directing an award-winning writing program at an academic magnet school in Nashville, Brown has been a lecturer at Vanderbilt University, a Scholar in Poetry at the renowned Bread Loaf Writers Conference, a Fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and a two-time recipient of fellowships in poetry from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Two weeks later, on Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., the Department of English will host the winners of this year’s Stone’s Throw Creative Writing Contest. Bethel University undergraduates will read their winning entries in poetry, short fiction, and drama in Room 131 of the Dickey Fine Arts Building.
Presented in conjunction with the Mary B. Holmes Fund for Literature, both events are free and open to the public.
